Free latissmus dorsi flap for lower limb defects.

Large defects, soft tissue or composite, in foot ankle and lower 1/3rd leg, are difficult to treat. With advent of fasciocutaneous flaps, inferiorly bases fasciocutaneous flaps have gained popolarily in such repairs. It is not always possible to raise such flaps and alternative has to be then considered. In competant and experienced hands free flaps are dependable, and offer a single stage repair. 26 free Latissimus Dorsi mycontaneous flaps are raised in present series, and used for variety of reconstructions in lower limbs.

Resuse of microsuture material.

Described here is simple technique of reusing micropoint needles and left over broken pieces of 8-0 and 10-0 monofilament nylon. These sutures so prepared are then available for use in experimental laboratoryy microsurgery work resulting in substantial saving on coats.

Island dorsalis pedis flap.

The Island Dorsalis pedis Flap is used for reconstruction of defects near the lower end of tibia and area adjacent to ankle joint. The flap is dissected as an island which aid greatly in increasing its arc of rotation and in improving its manouverability. The results are satisfactory functionally with acceptable donar site morbidity.

Cleft lip residual deformity correction.

Cleft lip residual deformities need a Careful assessement of disfigurement and distortion related defects. Lip and nose both develop them after the successful primary repair. That of nose are related to collumela, alar cartilages, septum both bony as well as cartilagenous and vesitbules. Surgical correction of each and every one of the defects present is expectecd to give a functionally and aesthetically acceptable result. Proper understanding of skeletal structural support of nose skin is draped is necessary. This srtical deals with finer aspects of deformities that develop in cleft lip noses and describes ways and means of correcting them.

Non-giant congenital melanocytic naevus in eyelid : a case report.

Non-giant cogenital melanocytic naevus is a rare entity. A case of such naevus in lower eyelid in a eight months old female child is presented. The lesion is completely excised and lower eyelid reconstruction is performed with Mustarade's cheek advancement rotation flap. Rarity of incidence and the possibility of its undergoing malignant changes is discussed.

Autogenous vein graft as a conduit for nerve regeneration : an experimental study.

This study is based on earlier experimental work of similar nature carried out by David T. Wchin in 1982 and experimented to find out if autogenous vein graft can act as a successful conduit for nerve regeneration. Twenty adult healthy guinea pigs were divided into different groups. Operative, histopathological and electrophysiological studies stretching over to 10 months period were then carried out. results of experiments conducted are tabulated and presented and compared with previously conducted studies.

Uses of sepa flap in reconstruction of defects of hand-a review of 25 cases.

The SEPA flap based on superficial External Pudendal Artery, raised from lower abdomen is used to cover defects of hand. A series of 25 cases is done, out of which 5 cases were dealt in the emergency whereas 20 cases were dealt in elective operations. Both unilateral and bilateral flaps were used. The results are encouraging but vary significantly upon the severity of injury.
