CP Sawhney, RK Sharma
January-June 1990, 23(1):18-21
The use of 1 percent Soframycin skin cream (framycetin) in the management of burn wounds was found to be superior to nitrofurazone ointment in a trial conducted on fortyfive cases of burns. Heparin in the management of extensive burns.
JL Srivastava, KR Babu, VK tewari, RP Narayan
January-June 1990, 23(1):7-12
The severe burn injury patients (more than 40 percent ) were studied in two randomized groups. Both groups were treated similarly except that one group received heparin both topically and systemically. Significant relief of pain, early healing in cases of superficial and deep dermal burns without hypertrophic scarring and contracture formation, early separation of eschar, excellent graft take in full thickness burns were few of the important advantages observed in heparin group patients. Significant decrease in the incidence of respiratory complications, septic shock and decreased mortality were also noticed in patients receiving heparin. The only disadvantage being that the doses required are quite heavy. No complications in the form of bleeding disorder, despite heavy dosages have been observed.

FM Tripathi, AK Chaudhury, DK Rai
January-June 1990, 23(1):9-16
Fifteen albino rats each weighing 300 to 400 gms were selected for micro angiographic studies. Microsurgical end-to-end femoral vein anastomosis was carried out and cream-o-bar 50 percent suspension was injected with the help of a D.K. Injector. A patency rate of 73 percent was achieved in the six week follow up study. Results of angiographic changes observed in the vascular humen following anastomosis have been analysed and are being presented.

Effect of number of sutures on microvascular venous anastomosis in experimental rats.
DC Srivastava, JK Sinha, S Khanna, FM Tripathi, V Bhattacharya
January-June 1990, 23(1):7-10
In this experimental study better patency rates (80 percent) were achieved when 8 to 9 sutures were used for anastomosis. Accurate edge to edge approximation and minimal medial damage were found to be prime factors in the success of venous anastomosis. Use of less number of sutures (4-6) resulted in significant leakage and early occlusion of the veins.
